ANANTNAG: The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Anantnag, today organised an awareness programme at Khanabal, Anantnag, to commemorate World Food Day under the theme “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow.”

The programme aimed to sensitise stakeholders and the public about the importance of food security, sustainable food management, prevention of food wastage and equitable distribution of essential commodities.

The programme brought together departmental officials, stakeholders and community members to deliberate on key issues concerning food security, nutrition, efficient supply chain management and the need for collective efforts to address hunger and ensure access to food for all sections of society.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers highlighted the significance of World Food Day in promoting awareness about global food security challenges and encouraging sustainable practices across the food supply chain. They emphasised that ensuring food security requires coordinated efforts in procurement, transportation, storage and distribution, along with the responsible utilisation of available resources.

The speakers stressed the need to adopt innovative, sustainable and forward-looking approaches to strengthen food management systems, minimise post-harvest losses and prevent the wastage of food commodities. They also underscored the importance of public awareness and community participation in promoting responsible consumption, reducing food wastage and ensuring that available food resources are utilised efficiently.

The programme also highlighted the pivotal role of the Department of FCS&CA in ensuring the availability and timely distribution of essential commodities to eligible beneficiaries through the Public Distribution System (PDS). Emphasis was laid on maintaining transparency, accountability and efficiency in the distribution mechanism, while ensuring that eligible households receive their entitled ration benefits without unnecessary delay.

It was stated during the programme that the Public Distribution System in Anantnag district continues to facilitate the distribution of sanctioned monthly ration quotas to eligible consumers as per the notified schedule. The department reiterated its commitment to maintaining a smooth and reliable supply of essential commodities and strengthening the delivery mechanism to ensure that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.

The speakers further highlighted the importance of proper inventory management, effective monitoring of stocks, timely transportation of commodities and coordination among field functionaries to ensure uninterrupted ration supplies. They emphasised that regular oversight and responsive public service delivery are essential for strengthening public confidence in the distribution system.

The programme also served as a platform to reinforce awareness about the shared responsibility of government departments, stakeholders and citizens in building a sustainable and resilient food system. Participants were encouraged to adopt responsible food consumption practices, avoid unnecessary wastage and contribute towards the broader goal of ensuring food security for every household.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment by the Department of FCS&CA, Anantnag, to promote sustainable food management practices, enhance operational efficiency, ensure timely distribution of essential commodities and uphold the principles of transparency and equitable access to food.
