SRINAGAR: In a stirring confluence of culture, community, and country, Shaam-e-Watan, a musical extravaganza suffused with patriotic fervour and nationalistic spirit, was organized by the Indian Army at Azmat-e-Hind, Tithwal, in the Karnah region of Kupwara, North Kashmir on 11 April 2026. The event stood as a compelling testament to the changing social consciousness of a resurgent Kashmir, where the youth are emerging as confident custodians of a progressive and harmonious future.

The evening unfolded as an exquisite mosaic of performances, soul-stirring patriotic songs, evocative poetry, and graceful dance recitals that captivated the audience and evoked a profound emotional resonance. Each performance served as a poignant reminder of an enduring bond with the nation, imbuing the atmosphere with a palpable sense of pride and belonging.

The event witnessed an impressive gathering of over 600 attendees, comprising children, youth, community elders, and civil society representatives, an eloquent reflection of collective participation and unity. The occasion was graced by the General Officer Commanding, 28 Infantry Division, Major General Rakesh Nair, YSM, SM, VSM, and the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara, Shri Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, both of whom witnessed the exceptional display of local talent and patriotic enthusiasm.

A defining moment of the programme was the solemn pledge undertaken by all present to work collectively towards a drug-free India. The pledge, administered by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Shri Mumtaz Peerzada, underscored a shared societal commitment to confronting the menace of substance abuse with resolve and unity.

The event unmistakably conveyed the depth of patriotic sentiment in the region. The youth of Kashmir, through their abundant creativity, artistic finesse and uninhibited expression, demonstrated a profound and joyous attachment to the nation, reflecting both cultural pride and a forward-looking optimism.

In his address, the General Officer Commanding lauded the people of Karnah for their deep-rooted love for the country and their spirited participation in such significant numbers. He also expressed appreciation for the community elders, acknowledging their pivotal role as custodians of cultural heritage and as guiding influences for the younger generation.

Shaam-e-Watan thus transcended the realm of a cultural event, emerging instead as a powerful narrative of unity, resilience, and renewal, where tradition and aspiration converge to shape a stronger, more cohesive national fabric.
