• Seeks compensation, rehabilitation for affected familie
  • Demands Immediate compensation and rehabilitation for rain-affected families
  • Urges Power Bill Amnesty, appeals to LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah to restore electricity

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Friday expressed deep concern over the extensive damage caused by recent heavy rains across Kashmir, particularly in the Beerwah area of Budgam district.

He said the torrential rains and flash floods have caused widespread damage to residential houses, commercial establishments, agricultural land and public infrastructure, leaving several families in distress. He expressed particular concern over the damage caused to the Shopping Complex in Beerwah and other private properties, saying the losses have severely affected the livelihoods of many people.

Hakeem Yaseen urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to conduct an immediate assessment of the losses and ensure adequate compensation for all affected families. He also called for the rehabilitation of those whose homes, businesses and other properties have been damaged in the recent rains.

Expressing concern over the disconnection of electricity in several parts of Budgam, including Khag, Khansahib and adjoining areas, over non-payment of electricity bills, Hakeem Yaseen said the move has compounded the hardships of people already struggling in the aftermath of heavy rains and adverse weather conditions.

He said disconnecting electricity during such a difficult period is insensitive and urged the authorities to adopt a humanitarian approach while dealing with consumers facing financial hardships.

The PDF President urged the Government to announce a one-time amnesty or suitable relief for electricity consumers instead of resorting to power disconnections. He appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene personally and ensure the immediate restoration of electricity in the affected areas.

Hakeem Yaseen also appealed to the administration to expedite relief operations, provide financial assistance without delay, restore damaged infrastructure at the earliest and ensure that no affected family is left without support. He also urged people to remain cautious during the ongoing spell of inclement weather and cooperate with the district administration and disaster management authorities.
