KUPWARA: Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, a team comprising Assistant Commissioner Revenue Peerzada Mumtaz, DySP Shivek Sharma, and officials from the Wildlife and Forest Protection Departments visited Manzchattar village in Chowkibal following the tragic death of 9-year-old Tajamul Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad Gojjar, in a leopard attack.

The officers conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured all possible support from the District Administration. The team also assured assistance to the family of Afshana Begum, wife of Showkat Ahmad, who was injured in a separate leopard attack. The Wildlife Department has installed a cage in the area to capture the leopard and is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Police and Army.

Residents, particularly local Masjid Committees, were urged to advise people to avoid venturing outdoors during early morning and late-night hours until the leopard is captured. Emphasis was laid on collective vigilance and community cooperation to prevent further incidents. The District Administration, police and Wildlife Department are working in close coordination to ensure public safety and address the situation.
