BUDGAM: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), various departments across District Budgam today organized a series of awareness, outreach, and preventive activities aimed at sensitizing the public, particularly youth and students, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of building a drug-free society.

The Forest Department, Raithan Range, organized a plantation drive, pledge-taking ceremony, and awareness programme under the banner of NMBA at Government Boys Middle School Jawalapora and Government Girls Primary School Bugroo. Students and staff actively participated in the programme, during which the significance of environmental conservation and a drug-free lifestyle was highlighted. Participants also took a pledge to support the vision of a drug-free society.

Meanwhile, the Excise Department, Budgam, conducted an awareness and survey programme at Village Gopalpora, Tehsil Narbal, under the NMBA campaign. During the programme, awareness regarding the dangers of drug abuse was disseminated among the local population through the distribution and display of posters at prominent locations. The Excise team also carried out a survey of agricultural fields, farms, and orchards to detect any illicit cultivation of narcotic crops. Wild cannabis growth was observed along certain roadside stretches and riverbanks.

As part of the awareness campaign, a message highlighting the adverse effects of drug abuse and relevant provisions of the NDPS Act was delivered to the congregation during the Friday sermon at Jamia Masjid Gopalpora. Additionally, checking of roadside eateries was conducted along the Narbal Magam Road to curb the transportation and spread of illicit narcotic substances.

Further, the Soil Conservation Department, Budgam, organized an awareness programme at the Sports Stadium Budgam, where students from different educational institutions participated enthusiastically. The participants were sensitized about the social, health, and economic consequences of substance abuse and were encouraged to act as ambassadors of a drug-free society.

The District Administration Budgam remains committed to the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and continues to undertake coordinated efforts involving various departments, educational institutions, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to eliminate the menace of drug abuse and promote a healthy, responsible, and drug-free society.
