REASI: As part of the ongoing month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan, Department of Agriculture Jammu organised an awareness camp at Panchayat Kotli Manotrian, Katra, Sub-Division Reasi, to educate farmers about the judicious use of fertilisers, balanced nutrient management, soil health conservation and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.

During the programme, farmers were sensitised about the importance of applying fertilisers based on crop requirements and soil test recommendations to enhance productivity while maintaining long-term soil fertility. The participants were also informed about the adverse effects of the excessive and indiscriminate use of chemical fertilisers on soil health and the environment. Emphasis was laid on the adoption of natural and organic farming practices as sustainable alternatives for improving soil quality and ensuring environment-friendly agricultural production.

The officers and experts interacted extensively with the farmers and addressed their queries on balanced fertiliser application, nutrient management, organic inputs, soil health improvement and eco-friendly farming techniques. They encouraged farmers to adopt scientific and sustainable farming practices to increase crop yields while preserving natural resources.

Among those present were Plant Protection Officer, Jammu, Raju Mahajan; Assistant Director (Law Enforcement), Jammu, Kuldeep Singh; Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi, Dr Banarsi Lal; Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Reasi, Aftab Malik; and Agriculture Extension Officer, Reasi, Karandev Singh.

The speakers highlighted various initiatives of the Agriculture Department aimed at promoting balanced fertilisation, soil health management and sustainable agriculture. They also urged farmers to avail themselves of the benefits of departmental schemes and programmes designed to improve farm productivity and income.

The participating farmers appreciated the initiative and expressed their commitment to adopting balanced fertiliser use and sustainable farming practices to improve crop productivity, maintain soil health and ensure long-term agricultural sustainability.
