JAMMU: A Special Lok Adalat for Matrimonial Cases was organized today by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu under the guidance of Ravinder Nath Watal, Principal District & Sessions Judge/Chairman, DLSA Jammu and under the supervision of Maleeka Sharma, Civil Judge Sr. Division/Secretary DLSA Jammu. 20 benches were constituted to take up matters related to matrimonial disputes.

A total of 155 cases were taken up in the Special Lok Adalat, out of which 34 cases were amicably settled through conciliation and mediation. The objective of the Special Lok Adalat was to provide speedy and cost-effective resolution to matrimonial disputes and to promote social harmony by encouraging parties to resolve their differences mutually. Similar Special Lok Adalats were held at TLSC Bishnah, RS Pura and Akhnoor.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
