AWANTIPORA: In pursuance of community engagement initiatives, Department of Islamic Studies organised an Outreach programme on Social Media and its impact on Youth for the students of M K college of Nursing, Kulgam. Speaking about the programme, Dr Showkat Hussain, Head  Department said that IUST has an effective outreach mechanism that engages with different stakeholders of the society. He said that youth are valuable resource, and it is our responsibility to shape their futures for the collective good of the society.

The program highlighted that while no technology is good or bad per se, its positives and negatives depend on how it is used. The excessive use of social media by the younger generation can lead to loss of time to unproductive activities which entails a cumulative loss of learning for them, besides other making them vulnerable to risks such as loss of privacy, exploitation and frauds. The program sensitized them about the educational use of the digital media.
