JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir General Secretary and former Deputy Mayor of Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria, launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, stating that while the people of Jammu & Kashmir are struggling with the aftermath of heavy rainfall and a natural calamity, the Chief Minister chose to travel to Delhi instead of personally supervising relief and rescue operations.

Billawaria said that incessant rainfall has severely disrupted normal life across several parts of the Union Territory. Roads have been damaged, waterlogging has affected numerous localities, landslides have blocked connectivity, and thousands of people are facing immense hardship. At such a critical juncture, he said, the Chief Minister’s foremost responsibility was to visit the affected areas, review relief and rehabilitation efforts on the ground, and issue clear directions to the administration.

Instead, he alleged, the people were left to fend for themselves. He further stated that during times of crisis, the government’s leadership must be visible on the ground to inspire confidence among affected citizens and ensure swift and effective relief measures. It is deeply unfortunate, Billawaria remarked, that the Chief Minister chose to distance himself from his responsibilities by leaving for Delhi when the people needed their elected leadership the most.

Billawaria noted that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been continuously monitoring the evolving situation and has been actively coordinating with the civil administration, the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and other agencies to accelerate rescue and relief operations.

He said the Lieutenant Governor’s proactive leadership has become a source of reassurance for the people during this challenging period. He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government stands firmly with the people of Jammu & Kashmir. According to Billawaria, the Centre has consistently extended every possible assistance during natural disasters and has always ensured the availability of additional resources, relief materials, and the full support of central agencies whenever required.

Billawaria also said that BJP workers are actively assisting people in the affected areas and are working in close coordination with the administration to support ongoing relief efforts. He urged the government to provide immediate financial assistance and adequate compensation to the affected families, ensure the availability of all essential facilities, and expedite the restoration of damaged infrastructure.

Concluding his statement, Billawaria said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir expect sensitivity, accountability, and decisive leadership from those in power during difficult times. He asserted that the Chief Minister should have risen above political theatrics and remained among the people of Jammu & Kashmir, as it is during moments of crisis that citizens need their leadership the most.
