BARAMULLA: As part of the strategic interventions under the J&K Startup Policy aimed at encouraging youth to become problem-solvers and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, the J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), District Centre Baramulla, organized its first Startup Idea Challenge 2.0 of the year at Government Degree College (GDC) Sopore today.

Around 60 students registered for the boot camp, with several participants pitching innovative ideas addressing diverse problem statements and real-life challenges. The ideas presented by the students focused on promoting tourism, improving utility management, addressing day-to-day household problems, waste management, and post-harvest management, reflecting the participants’ creativity and problem-solving approach.

The panel of experts comprised Dr. Syed Muzaffar, Principal, GDC Sopore; Anayat Sheikh, Senior Manager, J&K Bank; Mohd. Saleem, Founder, Chinar Naturals; Dr. Nadia Bhat; and Dr. Iffat, Associate Professors, GDC Sopore.

The programme aimed to identify promising and innovative ideas among young students and connect them with the wider startup ecosystem, while encouraging them to explore entrepreneurship as a pathway to solving local challenges and creating sustainable opportunities.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
