BARAMULLA: Continuing its sustained drive against illicit cannabis cultivation and substance abuse, J&K Police in Baramulla conducted wild bhung (cannabis) destruction drives at Sultandhaki, Kamalkote and Check Razak Khan.

At Sultandhaki Kamalkote, wild bhung growing naturally in the area was identified and destroyed on the spot. Similarly, Police Post Mirgund conducted a destruction drive at Check Razak Khan, where wild bhung spread over approximately 5 marlas of land was destroyed.

The drives were carried out as part of J&K Police’s continued efforts to prevent the availability of narcotic substances and keep vulnerable areas free from illicit cannabis growth. Police reiterates its commitment to intensifying enforcement against drug-related activities and urges the public to support the ongoing efforts towards a drug-free society.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
