BARAMULLA: The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, in collaboration with Lakshya Foundation, successfully concluded the six-day cultural and educational outreach initiative, “Mera Desh Meri Pehchaan 2026,” conducted across Uri, Sopore and Baramulla from June 15 to 20, 2026.

Designed as a vibrant platform to promote national integration, cultural awareness and meaningful youth engagement, the initiative brought together the rich and diverse heritage of India, offering students an immersive journey through the traditions, customs and artistic expressions of different regions of the country.

Through interactive cultural galleries, traditional artefacts, documentary screenings and captivating performances, participants experienced the unique heritage of Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland and West Bengal. The initiative served as a living classroom, encouraging young minds to appreciate India's remarkable cultural diversity while strengthening their sense of national identity.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 1,723 students from Uri, Sopore and Baramulla, reflecting the growing interest among youth in programmes that foster learning, cultural exchange and nation-building.

The programme culminated in a grand finale at Government Degree College (Boys), Baramulla, on June 20, 2026. The closing ceremony celebrated the spirit of “Unity in Diversity”—a defining pillar of India's social and cultural fabric.

The grand finale was graced by Major General Manoj Joshi, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 19 Infantry Division, as the Chief Guest. He was joined by distinguished civil and military dignitaries, underscoring the widespread appreciation and support the initiative received from various sections of society.

One of the most memorable highlights of the event was the cultural showcase presented by students of St. Joseph Public School, Baramulla, alongside the talented team from Lakshya Foundation. Their performances, marked by artistic excellence, cultural vibrancy and patriotic fervour, captivated the audience and drew resounding applause from attendees.

Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries commended the students for their enthusiasm, creativity and active participation. They emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing informed, confident and socially responsible citizens while fostering mutual respect, harmony and national pride among the younger generation.

The programme served as a powerful reminder of India's extraordinary cultural mosaic and reinforced the values of unity, inclusiveness and shared heritage that bind the nation together.

Through initiatives such as “Mera Desh Meri Pehchaan 2026,” the Indian Army continues to strengthen its enduring bond with the youth, inspire aspirations and promote peace, harmony and national integration across the region. The overwhelming response to the programme stands as a testament to the collective commitment of all stakeholders towards building a stronger, more united and progressive India.
