JAMMU: The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, organized an enlightening interactive session with Kundan Singh, Senior Journalist from New Delhi, who graced the occasion as the resource person. The session was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai and witnessed active participation from faculty members Dr. Pardeep Singh Bali and Dr. Ravia Gupta, along with an enthusiastic audience of media students.

Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, lauded the initiative, emphasizing the significance of such student-expert interactions. He stated, “Engagements with experienced media professionals are invaluable for our students. They not only inspire but also equip aspiring journalists with practical insights and the skills essential to uphold truth in an ever-evolving media landscape.”

In his welcome address, Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai expressed deep appreciation for Sh. Kundan Singh’s remarkable contributions to broadcast journalism and his willingness to share valuable industry experiences.

Drawing from his extensive career as a field reporter and cameraman, Sh. Kundan captivated the audience with real-life experiences covering natural disasters, floods, and crisis situations. He elaborated on how journalists, anchors, and camera persons perform their duties under high pressure to present the ground reality with integrity. He emphasized the importance of adaptability, ethical responsibility, and resilience—qualities essential for every journalist working beyond comfort zones across diverse regions.

The event also featured a lively question-and-answer session, where students engaged enthusiastically, discussing live reporting challenges, newsroom dynamics, and ethical dilemmas in journalism. The interaction offered a realistic glimpse into the world of media, bridging the gap between classroom theory and field practice.

Students described the session as “motivating, insightful, and practically enriching,” noting that the examples shared by Sh. Singh encouraged them to approach reporting with courage, humility, and a commitment to truth.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Ravia Gupta, marking the end of an inspiring and thought-provoking session that reaffirmed the department’s mission to nurture responsible, ethical, and dynamic media professionals.
