AWANTIPORA: Continuing its sustained efforts under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Police in Awantipora organized a series of drug awareness programmes and enforcement drives across different areas of the district to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to ensure strict implementation of anti-tobacco laws.

Awareness programmes were conducted at Hajad Public School, Government Middle School Nageenpora Tral, Government Middle School Renzipora, Government Higher Secondary School Hariparigam, and Government Boys Higher Secondary School Khrew. During these programmes, students and staff were sensitized about the ill effects of drug addiction, tobacco consumption, and the importance of leading a healthy and drug-free life.

Meanwhile, Police also conducted checking of shops selling cigarettes and other tobacco products near educational institutions in the jurisdiction of Police Station Awantipora and Police Post Toll Plaza. Violators were fined on the spot under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).

In addition, checking of medical stores was also carried out in the Aripal area to monitor the sale of regulated medicines and ensure compliance with legal provisions. Police remains committed towards creating a drug-free society through continuous awareness programmes, preventive measures, and strict enforcement against violators.
