POONCH: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, today handed over high-quality hockey equipment to talented players Akshara Dutta and Haiqa Banday. The two players, representing Sham Lal Hockey Club and Power House Hockey Club, have been selected to join the prestigious SAI Hockey Training Centre in Hissar, Haryana, marking a significant achievement for female athletes of the region.

This is for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that girls have been chosen for training at the SAI Academy, highlighting the growth and potential of women's hockey in the region. The Deputy Commissioner expressed pride in the accomplishments of these young athletes and encouraged them to excel in their training.

Both Akshara and Haiqa are trainees at the KI Hockey Centre, which has been instrumental in nurturing their skills and talent. The distribution of high-quality equipment is aimed at providing them with the necessary tools to develop their game play further and succeed in their upcoming training sessions.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
