GANDERBAL: Under the nationwide observance of Seva Parv-2025, the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) marked the culmination of the fortnight-long campaign “Swachhata Hi Seva 2025” with a programme “Swachhata Divas” at Tulmulla Campus here Thursday. The event was jointly organised by the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), with participation from faculty members, scholars, and students across the university.

The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, and attended by Dean School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Dean School of Life Sciences, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Irfan Aalam, HoD Physical Education, Dr. Kaukab Azeem, NSS Coordinator, Dr. Shabir Ahmad, Youth Welfare Officers, students and faculty.

Addressing the participants, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath lauded the dedication of the students who participated in the diverse activities organised during the Seva Parv-2025. He praised their intellectual reflections and creative contributions on a range of themes, noting that such engagements not only showcased their talent but also reflected their commitment to the nation’s growth and development. “The co-curricular and extra-curricular activities inculcate a spirit of camaraderie, discipline, and ethical values among students—qualities essential for holistic development,” Prof. A Ravinder Nath remarked. He further described the outreach programmes and competitions held during the fortnight as student empowerment initiatives, enabling young minds to think critically, collaborate with synergy, and share innovative ideas for the nation’s progress.

Highlighting the interlinkages between cleanliness and sustainability, the Vice-Chancellor spoke on the importance of aligning Swachhata campaigns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He asked the university administration to install waste-segregating dustbins across campuses and emphasised the controlled use of plastic to curb pollution. He felicitated the winners of various competitions held during the campaign with certificates of appreciation, recognising their active role in making the campaign a success. Later, Prof. A Ravinder Nath joined staff and students in a cleanliness drive within the campus.

Dean, School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, in his address, invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy, stressing that cleanliness transcends physical spaces—it encompasses cleanliness of thoughts, actions, governance, justice delivery, and social conduct. Quoting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, he emphasised that a truly clean nation can only be achieved when parents, teachers, and students internalise cleanliness as a way of life. “Cleanliness is not merely the responsibility of sanitary workers; it is a collective responsibility of every citizen,” Prof. Mir underscored. By aligning cleanliness with progress, and nation-building, the CUKashmir, Prof. Mir said, has reaffirmed its commitment to shape responsible citizens who serve society with dedication and integrity.

Speaking on the occasion, Dean, School of Life Sciences, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, hailed the contribution of students, faculty, and organisers for ensuring the campaign’s success. He stressed that cleanliness is not optional but imperative for a nation aspiring towards progress. “As India is steadily advancing on the path of growth and development, we must envision a new India free from pollution. To achieve Viksit Bharat @ 2047—the dream envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji—students must play a vital role in this journey,” Prof. Abid Hamid remarked. He described cleanliness as pivotal in shaping India into a developed nation.

The students who participated in the campaign shared their experiences and spoke about the opportunities provided by the university. They expressed gratitude to the administration for organising a variety of activities, which not only enriched their learning but also allowed them to contribute meaningfully to society.

Earlier, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Irfan Aalam, gave a comprehensive account of the Seva Parv-2025 activities carried out across different campuses since September 17. He remarked that the campaign was not a cluster of isolated events but a holistic endeavour encompassing physical cleanliness, ecological awareness, health consciousness, cultural advocacy, and community service. “Each initiative was a step towards embedding cleanliness into our personal and collective ethos,” he said. He appreciated the commitment and zeal shown by the students, faculty and organising team throughout the fortnight.

NSS Coordinator, Dr. Shabir Ahmad, enumerated the numerous initiatives taken under the campaign. These included cleanliness drives, poster-making, debates, essay-writing, awareness rallies, digital hygiene workshops, plantation drives, and cultural events—all converging on the central theme of promoting cleanliness as an ethic of life.

The event proceedings were conducted by Asst Prof. Deptt of Politics and Governance Dr. Himabindu, while Asst Prof. Deptt of Religious Studies, Dr. Harpal Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
