ANANTNAG: Municipal Committee Dooru, Verinag has successfully engaged eight members from various Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as Community Mobilizers under the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) component of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.

The engagement process was conducted in accordance with the guidelines and directions issued by the Mission Directorate, SBM (U) J&K, and followed a transparent selection procedure that included personal interviews, verification of credentials, and execution of formal contractual agreements with the selected SHG members.

This initiative is aimed at strengthening community participation at the grassroots level and enhancing public awareness regarding sanitation, solid waste management, hygiene practices, and source segregation of waste within the municipal limits.

The engaged Community Mobilizers will undertake door-to-door awareness campaigns, community outreach programmes, and public engagement activities to actively promote the objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.

The engagement of SHG members reflects the Government’s commitment to empowering women-led community institutions, generating livelihood opportunities, and fostering a sense of community ownership in sanitation and cleanliness initiatives. Through this initiative, Municipal Committee Dooru–Verinag seeks to further strengthen public participation in maintaining a clean, hygienic, and sustainable urban environment.

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan.IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity.
