JAMMU: The Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU) and the Department of Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit, University of Jammu today organized a plantation drive in the University Campus as part of a one-day special plantation drive called by the University Grants Commission under the “एक पेड़ मां के नाम / Plant4Mother” campaign initiated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on World Environment Day 2024.

During this event, more than hundred traditional, medicinal, and ornamental saplings were planted at various locations on the main Campus of the University of Jammu.

Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Deepika Slathia, Member Secretary, GCTF-JU, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Mr. Ajmer Singh, Landscape Development Officer, students from the Department of Environmental Sciences, volunteers of GCTF-JU and the staff from the Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit actively participated in the plantation activity.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
