JAMMU: Government Degree College Paloura celebrated Earth Day 2026 with great enthusiasm under the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” The event was organized by the Department of Environmental Science (EVS) in collaboration with the Eco Club of the college under the patronage of Principal of the college Dr. Savi Behl.

The celebration began with an awareness session where Prof Vijay Kumari, HOD Environmental sciences and convener Eco Club highlighted the urgent need to protect natural resources and encouraged students to adopt sustainable practices. The theme of the year emphasized the role of individuals and communities in shaping a healthier planet.

A key highlight of the programme was a paper recycling activity, in which students actively participated. Students also took part in poster-making and slogan-writing activities, creatively expressing their commitment to environmental protection. The Eco Club members led discussions on reducing plastic use, conserving water and adopting greener lifestyles. About 30 students participated in the whole event. The event concluded with pledge by students and faculty to work collectively towards safeguarding the environment.
