RAMBAN: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan today said that the preparedness and knowledge about disaster management  has assumed great importance over the years and is equally important for women to know about the same.

The DC, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, was addressing participants at a Mahila Disaster Management Awareness Program held  today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak; Tehsildar Headquarters Dr. Reejuta Mahajan and BDO Headquarters Shalini Chandel and several other officers participated in the event.

The programme, organized by the District Administration Ramban,   focused on sensitizing women about disaster preparedness, response, and recovery through awareness, training, and active community participation.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the enthusiastic participation of women and acknowledged their vital role as first responders within families and communities during emergencies. He emphasized that empowered women mean prepared families and resilient societies.

In his address, the ADC said that the District Administration will continue to organize such awareness and training programmes to build a disaster-resilient district with strong community involvement.

Earlier, the resource persons from SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, and Disaster Management conducted practical demonstrations and training sessions on emergency response, first aid, evacuation procedures, and rescue techniques. Women participants were also educated on the do’s and don’ts during natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and landslides.

Tehsildar Headquarters and BDO Headquarters conducted interaction sessions and sensitized the participants about the need for such training besides clearing their doubts.
