• Pitches for conducting cleanliness, plantation drives and awareness events

RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma today chaired a meeting to review the preparedness and activity plan for World Environment Day. After detailed discussion, the Deputy Commissioner decided to conduct a massive cleanliness drive across the district, with special focus on water bodies and surroundings of community assets such as schools, community halls and religious places.

The DC further directed to launch a special plantation drive "Ek Ped Shaheedon Ke Naam" in all Panchayats to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs. The School Education Department was instructed to plant fruit trees in all schools for environmental protection as well as creating sustainable and nutritional green space.

To reinforce environmental sustainability, DC Abhishek Sharma directed strict enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic and the launching of a mass awareness campaign on climate change. He proposed the initiation of ‘Green School’ initiatives with the support of the corporate sector and civil society.

To strengthen public-private participation, the DC pitched for encouraging private schools and local industry owners to adopt and maintain public parks as part of their community engagement.

The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the promotion and display of eco-friendly products, urging all departments and stakeholders to promote carbon-neutral and sustainable practices. He also suggested organizing exhibitions and sales of eco-friendly products made by Panchayats, promoting local innovation and self-reliance.
