RAJOURI: An awareness programme on Solid and Liquid Waste Management under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) was organized today at Manjakote. The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, who emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and effective waste management practices.

At the outset, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP), Sheraz Ahmed, presented a detailed briefing on the achievements in the block and district, highlighting the construction of Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs), sanitary complexes, and compost pits in Manjakote and across Rajouri.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and the general public, who delivered speeches on the significance of cleanliness and waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner  stressed the urgent need to protect the environment from plastic and other pollutants. He urged residents to adopt waste segregation at the household level, using two dustbins for dry and wet waste. He further elaborated on the importance of composting wet waste to produce organic manure and depositing dry waste at solid waste segregation sheds for recycling.

To encourage active participation in the Swachhta Abhiyan, the Deputy Commissioner distributed appreciation certificates to students for their contributions to the programme. The programme concluded with a pledge to uphold cleanliness and sustainable waste management practices in the community. The event was also attended by Tehsildar Manjakote Jazia Kazmi, BDO Shoib Aslam, sectoral officers, students, and the general public.
