KISHTWAR: As a part of the ongoing J&K green initiative, the District Administration Kishtwar, in collaboration with Civil Society, organised a plantation drive here at the Mini Secretariat- New Deputy Commissioner Office Complex.

Saplings were planted within the DC Office premises to increase green cover, promote urban plantation and maintain ecological balance. The initiative forms part of the UT Government’s continued commitment to environmental conservation and eco-friendly practices.

The Deputy Commissioner led the plantation drive by planting the first sapling. He highlighted the importance of tree plantation in addressing climate change, improving air quality and conserving natural resources.

He urged the government departments and the citizens to actively participate in such initiatives to contribute towards a greener future. The plantation drive witnessed active participation from ADC, Pawan Kotwal; CPO, Akhil Thakur; PO ICDS, Dr. Rishi Kumar Sharma and other district officers.

The programme highlighted the collective efforts of the district administration and civil society in promoting environmental awareness and encouraging community participation for sustainable development.

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan.IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity.
