JAMMU: The Central University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, organised a seminar to mark Partition Horrors Remembrance Day under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain. The programme aimed to honour the memory of millions who endured the tragic events of the Partition of India in 1947, highlighting the resilience, courage, and unity that emerged from one of the most challenging chapters in the nation’s history.

The event commenced with the display of an E-Exhibition featuring rare visuals and historical archives. This unique exhibition offered a poignant glimpse into the lives, struggles, and endurance of those who lived through the Partition, reminding attendees that history speaks not only through words but also through images that touch the soul.

This was followed by the Lamp Lighting Ceremony and the formal welcome address by Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean Students’ Welfare, Central University of Jammu, who set the tone for the day’s proceedings. She spoke about the human tragedy of Partition, which displaced millions and left scars across generations, and emphasised the importance of reaffirming our collective commitment towards peace, unity, and compassion.

The Chief Guest, Sh. S.P. Vaid, Former Director General of Police, J&K, shared his reflections on the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during the Partition. He honoured their grit and determination to rebuild their lives despite unimaginable loss. Speaking about the displacement of nearly 14–14.5 million people, he highlighted the particular hardships faced by women during this period. Sh. Vaid encouraged the youth to remain committed to harmony and national unity, and recommended reading notable works on Partition for a deeper understanding of its impact.

Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, CU Jammu, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the lack of planning during Partition and the resilience of those who migrated during that time. He emphasized their hard work, patriotism, and contribution to nation-building, urging students to work towards the vision of Viksit Bharat and to adopt Swadeshi practices in their daily lives.

Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, CU Jammu, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing deep gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organisers for their contributions to the seminar. He noted that Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is not only about remembering the pain of the past but also about learning from it to strengthen bonds of harmony for the future.

The seminar concluded with a Trianga Rally organised by the Department of Education under the leadership of Dr. Asit Mantry, symbolising unity and patriotism. The event was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students from various departments, and served as a solemn reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring responsibility to preserve peace and national integration.
