JAMMU: The Central University of Jammu celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at its vibrant and eco-friendly campus. The national flag was unfurled by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, in the presence of faculty members, officers, staff, students and other members of the University fraternity.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Prof. Sanjeev Jain extended warm greetings to the entire University family and reflected on the significance of Independence Day in the collective consciousness of the nation.

Paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters, revolutionaries and nation-builders whose sacrifices secured India’s freedom, the Prof. Jain said that Independence Day is not merely a celebration but also an occasion for introspection and reaffirmation of our commitment towards nation-building. He emphasized that India, as the world’s largest democracy and the mother of democracy, draws its strength from the Constitution and its foundational values of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.

Prof. Sanjeev Jain highlighted that these constitutional ideals are deeply rooted in India’s civilizational ethos and remain essential for preserving the dignity of every individual. He urged students and youth to embrace these values and contribute meaningfully towards building a strong, inclusive and progressive nation.

Speaking about the role of youth during the ongoing Amrit Kaal, the Vice Chancellor expressed confidence that India’s young generation would play a decisive role in shaping the nation’s future and leading the country towards becoming a developed nation by the centenary of independence. He stressed that nurturing young minds through quality education, innovation, skill development and value-based learning remains a top priority for the University.

Referring to the current global scenario marked by conflicts and instability, Prof. Jain reiterated India’s longstanding commitment to peace, harmony and non-violence. He observed that India’s rich knowledge traditions, inspired by the teachings of Lord Buddha and generations of sages and scholars, have enabled the country to emerge as a voice of peace and dialogue on the global stage.

The Vice Chancellor also shared the significant achievements of the Central University of Jammu during the past year. He informed that the University has made remarkable progress in academics, research, innovation, infrastructure development, student welfare, placements and international collaborations. He noted that the institution continues to align its academic vision with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by promoting multidisciplinary education, entrepreneurship, skill development and social responsibility.

Among the major accomplishments highlighted by Prof. Jain were the successful organization of an ICSSR-sponsored International Seminar on National Security Studies; the participation of students in AI-enabled education initiatives at IIT Jammu; the University’s continued excellence in SWAYAM-NPTEL courses with repeated ‘A’ Grade recognition; international academic collaboration through an MoU with Tribhuvan University, Nepal; the AAA+ Rating awarded to the School of Business Studies by Careers360; and the signing of a strategic MoU with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to strengthen industry-academia collaboration. The Vice Chancellor also expressed pride in the University’s strong placement performance, with students securing opportunities in leading companies including TCS and receiving salary packages up to ₹12 lakh per annum.

Prof. Jain particularly lauded the achievements of students who qualified prestigious national examinations, earned top rankings in NPTEL certifications and represented the University at national-level competitions. He also highlighted the selection of two University students for an interaction with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India under the national-level “Budget Quest 2026” competition.

Calling upon all members of the University community to work with excellence, transparency, discipline and dedication, the Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the University’s commitment to becoming a centre of academic excellence, research innovation and societal transformation.

Concluding his address, Prof. Jain urged everyone to renew their pledge towards safeguarding the unity, integrity and prosperity of the nation and to discharge their duties with sincerity and commitment. He once again extended his heartfelt greetings to all on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day.

The celebration concluded with patriotic fervour, cultural presentations by NCC students and a collective resolve to contribute towards the progress of the nation and the continued growth of the Central University of Jammu.
