JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri has welcomed the President Droupadi Murmu’s assent to the Vande Mataram Bill, calling it a matter of pride for every Indian. He said the legislation, making deliberate disrespect or obstruction during the singing of Vande Mataram punishable under relevant laws, will further strengthen respect for the national song and the values associated with it.

Suri said the decision assumes greater significance alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, which has encouraged citizens to proudly hoist the Tricolour at their homes. He said the campaign has transformed Independence Day celebrations by making every household a participant in the national ceremony rather than leaving celebrations confined to official venues.

Referring specifically to Jammu Kashmir, Suri said that during the peak years of militancy, it was difficult for common people to reach stadiums where the main Independence Day functions were held. Har Ghar Tiranga gave every citizen an opportunity to be part of the celebration from home, irrespective of distance or other constraints.

He said the improved security situation has now enabled people to participate enthusiastically at major venues as well, while they remain free to hoist the Tricolour at home with equal pride. Suri said the sight of flags flying from homes across Jammu Kashmir reflects the growing confidence and patriotism of the people.

Suri said the Presidential assent to the Vande Mataram Bill and the success of Har Ghar Tiranga together reflect a renewed spirit of national pride. He added that every citizen, whether participating at a public venue or from home, has an equal role in celebrating the nation and strengthening the spirit of unity.
