RAMBAN: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Ramban, today conducted a special joint enforcement drive across the district to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The drive was conducted in coordination with the District Police, keeping security concerns in view, under the supervision of ARTO Ramban Varun Bhasin. A special checking operation was carried out at Maitra, Ramban, with particular focus on ensuring that auto-rickshaws were not fitted with curtains and were operating with functional fare meters.

During the drive, 127 vehicles were inspected, of which 28 were e-challaned for various violations of the Motor Vehicles Act, including overcharging, overloading, operating without a valid permit, use of curtains in vehicles and operating without a valid fitness certificate. The expected penalty amount from the e-challans is ā‚¹76,500. Two driving licences have been recommended for suspension due to serious violations.

The Motor Vehicles Department advised vehicle owners and operators to comply with all provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and keep their documents valid to avoid penal action, adding that such joint enforcement drives will continue across the district to strengthen security, enhance road safety and ensure passenger convenience.
