REASI: Government Degree College Katra conducted an essay writing competition on the topic “Unsung Heroes of Freedom Struggle.” In this event, seven talented students of B.A. Sem. III and Sem. V enthusiastically participated and penned down their ideas on the topic. The aim of the competition was to shed light on the bravery and sacrifices of those unsung heroes of the freedom struggle who have often been overlooked in mainstream historical narratives.

The competition was judged by a panel of esteemed faculty members who praised the quality and depth of the essays. Rajinder Singh, a student of B.A. Semester V, secured the first position, while Raghavi Kanathia, a student of B.A. Sem. V, clinched the second prize. Simran Kumari, a student of B.A. Sem. III, was awarded the third prize.

The award ceremony will be held later in the multipurpose hall of the college, where the winners will be felicitated with certificates. Principal Dr. Rajni Bhagat commended the students for their dedication and insightful contributions. It is heartening to see our students engage so deeply with our nation’s history. Recognizing the unsung heroes of our freedom struggle is important in understanding the sacrifices made for our independence, she added.  Prof. Shikha Bhasin, Dr. Mohd Younus Saleem, Dr. Manisha Kumari, and Dr. Harmeet Kour supervised the students who participated in the essay writing competition.
