  • Samples lifted, hygiene compliance stressed

SHOPIAN: The Food Safety Department, Shopian today conducted a comprehensive inspection drive across the Main Market, Shopian to ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food for consumers.

During the inspection, the enforcement team lifted two food samples for detailed laboratory analysis to verify their quality and conformity with the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Appropriate action will be initiated as per law based on the laboratory findings.

Besides enforcement, the team also carried out an extensive awareness programme among Food Business Operators (FBOs), sensitizing them about the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation in their establishments.

The FBOs were advised to ensure cleanliness of food preparation and storage areas, use only safe and wholesome raw materials, maintain strict personal hygiene among food handlers and adhere to all provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The Food Safety Department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health through regular market inspections, surveillance and awareness campaigns. It also warned that strict legal action will be taken against any Food Business Operator found violating food safety regulations.

The department appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring the availability of safe, wholesome and quality food to consumers across the district.
