- Stay away from the curse of drug addiction: BADC Chairman to youth
JAMMU: To celebrate Independence Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK_BADC) organized an event at the BADC office in the border town of Mendhar. In a simple program with a gathering of locals, Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of JK_BADC and former Vice Chancellor, unfurled the national flag.
The program was graced by the presence of prominent local people, including former Panchayat members, senior citizens, activists, media persons, and a large number of students from different colleges and schools.
After the flag hoisting and his congratulatory Independence Day message, while interacting with the gathering, Dr. Shazad urged the youth to stay away from the curse of drug addiction, stating that drugs and narcotics have not only taken the lives of addicts but also ruined the lives of their families.
He requested senior citizens to use their influence and involve the community to address this serious issue, and to be vocal in discussing this problem. The BADC Chairman mentioned that many families remain hesitant if any member is found involved in drug addiction. He stated that instead of hiding this serious issue, the family members of the addict should come forward and seek help from community leaders and the administration. He emphasized that the families of addicts are victims themselves, and it is the duty of the administration and locals not to isolate them but to render all possible help. Prominent locals also shared their views on the occasion.
