JAMMU:  J&K BJP All Cells Incharge Ved Sharma reviewed the functioning of the Urban Local Body Cell at the BJP headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, in the presence of Cell Convenor and former Councillor Pawan Singh.

Ved Sharma, while addressing the meeting, said that the continued delay in holding Urban Local Body and Panchayati Raj elections is due to the ineffective functioning of the National Conference-led government. This is hampering the delivery of grassroots-level services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the absence of elected representatives at the local level is affecting public participation, accountability and the effective resolution of day-to-day civic and developmental issues.

Sharma said the BJP would continue to remain prepared and raise the issue of early elections at every appropriate forum. He stressed that empowered and elected local institutions are essential for responsive governance, better civic management and ensuring that development reaches every locality.

During the organizational review, Ved Sharma allotted districts to the co-convenors of the Urban Local Body Cell and directed them to ensure proper representation of every committee of each district in the team. He emphasized strengthening coordination among functionaries, expanding organizational outreach and maintaining regular engagement with local communities.

Pawan Singh presented a detailed report on the activities undertaken by the Urban Local Body Cell during August and up to September 15. He apprised the meeting of the work carried out by the cell and various organisational initiatives undertaken during the period. He thanked the team members for their cooperation and active participation and called for continued coordinated efforts to further strengthen the cell’s functioning. Former Councillor Ajay Gupta, Anu Gupta and other members of the cell were also present during the meeting.
