PULWAMA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom convened a meeting of concerned officers today to review the arrangements being put in place by various departments for the smooth celebration of Independence Day, 2024, in the district.

At the outset, the DC highlighted the importance of the national event, sensitizing concerned officers from line departments about their roles and responsibilities. He directed them to make fool-proof arrangements in advance to ensure the smooth conduct of celebrations across the district with fervor and enthusiasm. He emphasized the inclusion of various cultural activities representing the diversity of our great nation and urged the involvement of students, youth, artists, and performers in the national event.

The review also encompassed an assessment of the infrastructure and facilities for the convenience of attendees, including seating arrangements, traffic management, and medical aid centers, as well as the arrangements to be put in place from rehearsals to the main event. The meeting was informed that the main function will be held at DPL Pulwama, while local administration will celebrate the national event at Sub-Division, Block, and Tehsil levels.

The DC directed the district heads of different departments to ensure their presence, as well as the presence of subordinate officers and officials, at the Independence Day function both at the district headquarters and at divisional level functions. Arrangements for flag hoisting, march pasts, cultural items, seating arrangements, stage setting, venue preparation, and refreshments for the I-Day celebration were discussed in the meeting.

Directions were given to concerned officers to make fool-proof security arrangements and ensure adequate provision of drinking water, power supply, medical care, sanitation, transport, traffic regulation, and illumination of major government buildings in the tricolor theme. Additionally, the deployment of fire tenders, seating arrangements, and distribution of invitations were also addressed.

Dr. Basharat also impressed upon the concerned officers to make arrangements for students and artists to facilitate their participation in the Independence Day celebration, including their boarding and lodging. The DC instructed the concerned officers to ensure maximum participation of school children, NCC & NSS cadres, police, band parties, and other teams for the parade on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day.

Dr. Basharat emphasized the importance of National Flag hoisting and stressed adherence to the National Flag Code to ensure the honor and dignity of the national flag. All officers were impressed upon to acquaint themselves well with the code and procedures. The meeting witnessed participation of District/ Sectoral officers and representatives of other stakeholder agencies.
