  • Urged the Centre to take concrete steps to restore full statehood as committed

JAMMU: Senior National Conference leader and Provincial President Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta, Adv., today accused the BJP of conspiring against the Omar Abdullah-led government with the alleged intention of disturbing the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a colourful joining programme of the JKNC Student Wing, held under the chairmanship of Harshvardhan Singh, President, Student Wing Jammu at Party headquarter Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Mr. Gupta said that the BJP appears confused and frustrated by the good governance and all-round developmental achievements of the Omar Abdullah-led government during the last two years.

Mr. Gupta expressed concern over what he described as serious questions being raised by democratic and political circles regarding the functioning of the Election Commission. He said that allegations concerning the deletion of a large number of voters from electoral rolls are a matter of grave concern and deserve complete transparency and clarification. The right to vote is a fundamental component of democratic participation, and no genuine voter should be deprived of this right without due process and an opportunity for correction.

He said that the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister had publicly committed to restoring Statehood, and stressed that the people of J&K are eagerly awaiting fulfilment of that commitment. He urged the Centre to take concrete steps at the earliest to restore full Statehood and democratic dignity to Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the students, Mr. Gupta called upon the student fraternity to work hard for the welfare of students and society at large. He urged young people to uphold the values of secularism, socialism, democracy, constitutionalism and brotherhood, and to contribute positively towards strengthening peace, unity and social harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.
