JAMMU: Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, a series of awareness and sensitisation programmes on drug abuse were conducted in schools and colleges across Jammu district under Phase-II of the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan.

The programmes were organised as part of the district-wide Information, Education and Communication campaign with the objective of educating the youth and masses about the harmful effects of substance abuse and strengthening collective efforts towards achieving a drug-free society.

Among the major activities, Government Degree College Bishnah organised a comprehensive awareness programme wherein expert speakers from the Health, Police, Social Welfare and Education Department deliberated upon the physical, psychological, social and legal consequences of drug abuse. Students were sensitised about the provisions of the NDPS Act, the role of NCORD, early intervention, counselling and rehabilitation facilities. The programme concluded with a pledge ceremony, reaffirming the commitment of students and faculty towards a drug-free campus.

At Government Degree College Jourian, an extensive anti-drug awareness campaign was conducted under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, featuring lectures by medical officers, police officials, social welfare representatives and teachers. The speakers highlighted health risks, legal ramifications, social impact and the importance of positive coping mechanisms. Active participation of NSS volunteers and students marked the programme’s success.

Government Degree College Kunjwani/Sainik Colony Jammu organised an awareness programme, in which more than 150 students participated. Resource persons from the Health Department, Social Welfare Department and School Education Department provided multi-dimensional perspectives on substance abuse, while the Principal emphasised the role of educational institutions in nurturing responsible and resilient citizens.
