SHOPIAN: J&K Police conducted a district-wide verification drive to check the use of unauthorized Virtual Private Network (VPN) services in Shopian, during which 15 individuals were identified. The drive was carried out in strict compliance with the prevailing prohibitory orders in force, aimed at restricting the use of unauthorized VPNs to prevent the misuse of digital and encrypted platforms that could pose potential risks to public safety and security.

Following detailed technical scrutiny and background verification, no terror-related links or adverse antecedents were found and no FIR has been registered in the matter. However, as a preventive measure, security proceedings were initiated against 10 individuals, primarily belonging to the younger age group, for violation of the said orders.

They were strictly warned to refrain from using unauthorized VPN services in the future. Out of the 15 individuals identified, 05 were minors who were counselled and advised in the presence of their guardians, with emphasis on awareness, lawful digital conduct, and the consequences of violating lawful orders. J&K Police reiterated their commitment to enforcing lawful directives, preventing the misuse of online platforms, and ensuring public safety and cybersecurity across the district.
