JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri has termed the proposed Global Kashmiri Hindu Conference and Heritage Tour in Kashmir as a historic and emotional moment for the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community, stating that such a large-scale gathering in the Valley after 36 years clearly reflects the improving situation in Jammu Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Raman Suri said that the return of displaced Kashmiri Hindus to the Valley, even for cultural, spiritual and heritage reconnect programmes, has become possible because of the union government’s clear intentions, visionary policies and firm handling of the security situation in Jammu Kashmir. He said that over the last several years, the Centre has worked tirelessly to restore peace, stability, security and confidence among the people, which is now visible through such positive developments.

Referring to the Global Kashmiri Hindu Conference and Heritage Tour scheduled from June 6 to 14 at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre, Raman Suri said this will be the first event of its kind in the Valley after the mass displacement of Kashmiri Pandits nearly three and a half decades ago. He added that the conference is not merely an event but a strong symbol of emotional reconnect, cultural revival and the gradual return of normalcy in Kashmir in which local Kashmiris have a great role to play.

ā€œThe atmosphere in Kashmir is changing. The willingness of displaced Kashmiri Hindus from across India and abroad to visit the Valley and participate in this conclave shows that trust is slowly being rebuilt. This is the result of determined governance, improved security management and development-oriented policies implemented by the Union Government,ā€ he said.

Raman Suri said the conference theme, ā€œStruggle, Renaissance and Journey of Return of Kashmiri Hindus,ā€ perfectly captures the pain, resilience and aspirations of the community. He appreciated the efforts of various Kashmiri Hindu organisations and diaspora groups for taking the initiative to reconnect the younger generation with their roots, traditions and heritage.

He noted that the conference, which will include intellectual sessions, round-table discussions, cultural programmes, youth interactions and heritage tours to temples and historical sites, will help preserve and promote the centuries-old Sanatan civilisation of Kashmir. He said such initiatives are essential to revive the cultural identity of Kashmiri Hindus and strengthen communal harmony and mutual understanding among all sections of society.
