POONCH: What could be described as a historic move, Poonch hosted the maiden National-Level Cricket Triangular Series for Differently-abled, marking a significant milestone in promoting inclusivity in sports in the border district. Coinciding with the National Disability Day, the tournament, organised by the District Administration Poonch in collaboration with the JK Divyang Welfare Association and the Divyang Cricket Control Board of India, featured enthusiastic participation from teams representing Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal, who termed the initiative as a vital step towards empowering differently-abled individuals and showcasing their remarkable talent in cricket. He emphasized the importance of fostering inclusivity and sportsmanship through such events.

The triangular series brought together players from across the country, reflecting their determination and spirit to excel despite challenges. Shah Aziz, Captain of the J&K Divyang Cricket Team, noted that this collaboration sets a precedent for Poonch to emerge as a hub for inclusive sports, providing opportunities for differently-abled athletes to shine on national platforms.

Deputy Commissioner said that it is the first national-level event hosted in Poonch, coinciding with National Disability Day." The opening ceremony was attended by DDC Member Riaz Bashir Naz, Chairman Pir Panchal Mohammad Fareed Malik, and other sports dignitaries were present in the tournament.
