ANANTNAG: Continuing its sustained and aggressive campaign against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse, police in Anantnag has achieved significant success during the first of the 100 days long Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan launched by Hon’ble LG Shri Manoj Sinha.

During the first month, Police registered 120 FIRs under various provisions of the NDPS Act and arrested 118 drug peddlers involved in narcotics trafficking and related activities. More than 300 kilograms of contraband substances were seized during multiple operations conducted across the district.

In a major action against illegally acquired assets linked to drug trafficking, properties in 14 cases, valued at approximately ₹10 Crores, were attached under relevant provisions of law.  Furthermore, two properties worth nearly ₹3.5 Crores, found to be connected with narcotics proceeds, were demolished as part of the intensified crackdown on the drug network.

As part of efforts to eliminate the menace from its roots, Police also destroyed illegal narcotic cultivation spread over nearly 300 marlas of land during the drive.  Additionally, around 1084 kilograms of narcotic substances were destroyed following legal procedures. The drive also witnessed the arrest of one female drug peddler and two female drug cultivators involved in narcotics-related activities. Two government employees were also found involved in drug-related cases and legal action has been initiated against them.

Moreover, in coordination with the concerned authorities, 13 driving licences (DLs) and 09 registration certificates (RCs) were cancelled in connection with narcotics-related offences during the month.

To further strengthen preventive measures against habitual offenders and major peddlers, preventive detention was invoked against 119 drug peddlers under relevant laws. Moreover, 80 Narco CASOs were conducted across the district to curb the movement and supply of narcotic substances.

District Police Anantnag along with concerned departments conducted inspections of 45 medical shops across the district. During checking, 15 violations were detected, and necessary legal action was initiated against the violators.

Two narcotic hideouts were also busted during this period as part of Police’s zero-tolerance policy against drug menace. To enhance professional competence, 50 IOs handling NDPS cases were imparted training at DPO Anantnag on legal procedures and evidence handling.

Police reiterates its firm commitment towards eradicating the drug menace from society and appeals to the general public, especially the youth, to cooperate with Police in identifying and reporting drug-related activities. Public support remains vital in the collective fight against narcotics and in safeguarding the future of society.
