KATRA: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra organised a compassionate outreach visit to Jagriti Old Age Home and Orphanage in Udhampur. The initiative aimed to strengthen the spirit of service among student volunteers and promote empathy, social awareness, and community engagement. NSS Coordinator Dr. Rajiv Kumar, along with the volunteers, spent around three hours interacting with the residents.

At the old age home, volunteers offered companionship to the elderly, engaging them in heartfelt conversations and listening to their life experiences. Later, at the orphanage, they conducted fun and interactive sessions with the children. As part of the visit, the volunteers distributed towels, stationery items, games, fruits, sweets, and other essentials to the residents of Jagriti Home.

They also prepared handmade greeting cards with thoughtful messages and personally handed them over to the elderly and children, adding a touch of warmth and care to the occasion. The residents expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gesture, while the volunteers shared that the experience was deeply moving and enriching.

The NSS unit emphasised that such visits play an important role in shaping socially responsible youth and nurturing values of compassion and service. The programme concluded with the volunteers reaffirming their commitment to the NSS motto, ā€œNot Me, But You,ā€ and their dedication to contributing meaningfully to society.
