PULWAMA: The Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) under the overall supervision of Mohammad Younis Malik, Director, JKEDI, organised the Startup Idea Challenge 2.0 in collaboration with Government Degree College for Boys, Pulwama.

The programme forms part of JKEDI’s ongoing initiatives under the J&K Startup Policy 2024–27 to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and youth-led startups across the Union Territory.

Professor Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, Principal of Government Degree College for Boys, Pulwama, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Distinguished guests and faculty members present included Raiyees Manzoor, District Nodal Officer, JKEDI Pulwama; Dr. Tariq H. Ganai, Associate Professor and former Head, Department of Food Technology, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST); Engineer G. N. Shah, Superintendent, ITI Pulwama, Zahoor Ah Basu, successful entrepreneur and proprietor of Gulab Enterprises; and Senior Faculty members from the college.

Students participated with enthusiasm and presented a diverse range of innovative ideas before the selection committee. The shortlisted concepts will represent District Pulwama at the forthcoming state-level competition.

The Startup Idea Challenge 2.0 offers selected innovators mentorship, incubation support, access to seed funding and co-working facilities at JKEDI hubs, enabling promising ideas to develop into viable entrepreneurial ventures.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
