JAMMU: Senior BJP leader Raman Suri has expressed immense joy and pride over the selection of Jammu Kashmir's fast bowling sensation Aqib Nabi in the Indian Test cricket team, describing it as a historic moment for the Union Territory (UT) and an inspiration for thousands of aspiring sportspersons.
Congratulating the young cricketer, Suri said that Aqib's remarkable journey from representing Jammu Kashmir in domestic cricket since 2018 to earning a place in the national test squad is a shining example of dedication, discipline and unwavering commitment. "His rise from the cricket grounds of Baramulla to wearing the Indian cap is nothing short of extraordinary and has filled every resident of Jammu Kashmir with pride," he said.
Raman Suri highlighted that Aqib has claimed around 60 wickets in first-class cricket and made a strong impact in the Ranji Trophy, where he emerged as one of the finest fast bowlers in the country. His seven-wicket haul, which surpassed a long-standing record associated with cricket legend Kapil Dev, established him as a bowler capable of creating history through sheer determination and skill.
Known as the "Baramulla Express", Suri said Aqib's exceptional pace and match-winning performances earned him widespread recognition across the country. His selection by Delhi Capitals for a staggering ₹8.4 crore in the IPL 2026 auction further underlined the confidence reposed in his talent by cricket experts and franchises alike.
"Today, Aqib Nabi has not only realised his own dream but has also fulfilled the aspirations of countless young boys and girls in Jammu and Kashmir who wish to excel in sports. His success proves that with hard work, perseverance and the right opportunities, talent from Jammu and Kashmir can compete with the very best in the world," Suri said.
The BJP leader expressed confidence that Aqib would make the nation proud on the international stage and wished him a successful and memorable career in Indian cricket. He also hoped that his achievement would motivate more youth from the Union Territory to pursue sports with passion and dedication, bringing greater glory to Jammu and Kashmir and to the country.
