In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) successfully concluded its three-day Union Territory-level training workshop on the Village Prosperity & Resilience Plan (VPRP) aimed at strengthening the capacities of JKRLM officials for effective planning, participatory development and the integration of community-driven priorities into Gram Panchayat Development plans (GPDPs).

Designed to equip participants with essential skills and technical knowledge for the seamless formulation and execution of VPRPs, the three days training program  focused on seeding of the concept of VPRP among rural population and aligning community-driven needs and aspirations with the broader framework of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs).

During the three-day sessions, resource persons alongside thematic experts from JKRLM delivered extensive hands-on training across core VPRP components viz. Entitlement Plans, Livelihood Development, Plans  Social Development Plans and Resource Development Plans.

The training aimed to educate members about both the awareness at the grass root level and  translation of aspiration and needs into a structured plan which will be further dove tailed with GPDP.

Mission Director JKRLM, Dr Shubhra Sharma while interacting with the participants emphasised the importance of clearly understanding their roles and responsibilities and effectively translating the knowledge acquired through training into action at the grassroots level. She urged the participants to disseminate their learnings among rural communities, enabling people to participate meaningfully in the formulation of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs) and contribute towards sustainable village development.

Dr. Shubhra Sharma emphasised that the VPRP process must begin with an understanding of the needs and aspirations of rural communities. She stressed that participants must take this understanding to the grassroots, enabling people to identify their priorities and bring them into the Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs). She noted that effective planning and convergence with government schemes are essential to ensuring that development reaches those who need it most and contributes to lasting improvements in rural livelihoods.

As part of the training  programme, a house discussion was also held, allowing participants to engage in meaningful dialogue on local issues, opportunities and strategies for enhancing SHG initiatives through effective convergence and resilience planning.
