SAMBA: As part of the ongoing plantation drive "Ek Ped Maa K Naam, Ek Ped Shahidoon K Naam," the District Administration Samba organized a significant plantation event at Veer Bhoomi Park. The drive aims to honor mothers and martyrs by planting trees in their names, fostering a greener and more sustainable environment.

Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma, led the event, paying tribute to 1971 war hero martyr Arun Khetarpal at Veer Bhoomi Park. His homage was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our soldiers and the importance of remembering their contributions. The event saw active participation from district officers, members of civil society, and numerous volunteers, all united in their commitment to the cause.

Addressing the gathering, the DC emphasized the importance of sustaining these efforts beyond the drive's conclusion. He urged the community to continue planting trees and nurturing them, reinforcing the significance of environmental conservation and the legacy of our martyrs. The plantation drive will continue until 15th August, ensuring extensive coverage and involvement from various community segments.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
