GANDERBAL: The Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised a series of activities under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 6, in accordance with the directives issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, to promote cleanliness, environmental conservation and the responsible utilisation of resources across the university.

As part of the campaign, a plantation drive was conducted on the university campus to enhance green cover and raise awareness about environmental protection. The plantation initiative was followed by a cleanliness drive, in which university staff and students actively participated in maintaining clean, hygienic and environmentally sustainable surroundings.

The university also undertook the weeding out of obsolete records and the disposal of electronic waste as part of its efforts to promote efficient resource management and maintain an organised working environment. The initiative aimed at eliminating redundant materials, freeing up office space and ensuring the proper disposal and management of e-waste in accordance with government guidelines.

Meanwhile, the Department of Law organised an elocution competition on the theme “Swachhata, Sustainability and Waste to Wealth” to encourage students to engage with issues relating to cleanliness, environmental sustainability and effective waste management. Students from various departments participated in the competition and presented their perspectives on maintaining cleanliness, adopting sustainable practices, managing waste responsibly and exploring innovative ways to transform waste materials into useful resources.

A jury assessed the participants on the quality of their presentations and the practical relevance of the ideas they proposed. Mudassir Ahmad of LL.B. secured first place, while Tamanna Maan of LL.B. bagged second place. Waqar Chaudhary of LL.M. secured third place in the competition.

The series of activities underscored the importance of collective participation in maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings, safeguarding the environment and ensuring the responsible use of available resources. Through these initiatives, CUKashmir reaffirmed the significance of promoting environmental awareness, sustainable practices and responsible waste management within the university community.
