SRINAGAR: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu and Kashmir, has suspended the licence of M/s ARWAH Packaged Drinking Water, located at Kakan Maran, Budgam, after an inspection found deficiencies in water-quality monitoring, food-safety management and statutory documentation.

The action followed an inspection conducted on October 5, 2026, pursuant to a complaint against the unit. The licence, issued under No. 11026070000022, has been suspended by the Designated Officer, Food Safety, Budgam, until further orders. The unit has also been directed to cease all activities at its premises until further orders.

During the inspection, the Food Safety Officer found that the unit did not have an adequate system for testing and monitoring the quality of the water being processed and packaged. The required records and documents were not produced for verification. The bottle-capping and sealing mechanism was also found to be defective, resulting in leakage. The findings raised concerns about the effectiveness of the unit’s quality-control measures, hygienic manufacturing practices and the integrity of its packaged drinking water.

Packaged drinking water is classified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) as a high-risk food category and is subject to stringent quality-control requirements and regulatory oversight. Manufacturers must ensure that water processed and packaged for human consumption meets applicable food-safety standards, and maintain appropriate testing, monitoring, documentation and hygienic controls throughout the manufacturing process.

A show-cause notice was issued to the Food Business Operator on October 7, 2026, seeking an explanation for the violations observed. No response was received within the stipulated period. In view of the inspection findings and the failure to respond to the notice, the Designated Officer ordered the licence’s suspension in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Consumers are requested to report any suspected unsafe or adulterated food product by emailing cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in.
