RAMBAN: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan today disbursed ₹12.10 lakh as compensation to the legal heirs of deceased road accident victims and a minor injured in a road mishap. The compensation has been provided under the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund based on the cases submitted by the ARTO.

An amount of ₹1 lakh each was disbursed to the legal heirs of 12 deceased victims, while ₹10,000 was provided to a minor injured in a road accident as immediate financial assistance.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to extending timely support to families affected by tragic road mishaps and ensuring that relief reaches deserving beneficiaries without delay.

The DC directed the concerned officers to ensure that all such cases are processed promptly upon being reported so that affected families receive immediate assistance under the welfare measures meant for public support and relief.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the ARTO Ramban to intensify road safety awareness campaigns across the district and ensure strict implementation of road safety measures to minimize accidents. He emphasized the need to sensitize drivers, transport operators and the general public about safe driving practices, adherence to traffic rules, use of seat belts and helmets and the importance of responsible road behaviour.

He further stressed upon the Motor Vehicles Department to strengthen enforcement and continue public outreach programmes to promote road safety and prevent loss of precious lives.
