JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri has expressed serious concern over the worsening water and electricity crisis across Jammu city, particularly in the posh localities, where residents are being forced to depend on costly private water tankers amid the scorching summer heat. In a statement here, Raman Suri said it is unfortunate that even well-developed residential areas of Jammu and adjoining localities are facing severe shortages of drinking water due to faults in tubewell pipelines and delayed repair works.
He said the situation has exposed the poor preparedness of the concerned departments despite repeated warnings about rising temperatures in Jammu. āPeople are suffering immensely in this unbearable heat. Women, children and elderly citizens are the worst affected as they are forced to struggle for every drop of water,ā he said.
Raman Suri added that unannounced power cuts lasting several hours have further worsened the situation. āWhen temperatures have crossed 40 degrees Celsius, the administration must ensure uninterrupted water and electricity supply. Citizens cannot be left helpless during such extreme weather conditions,ā he remarked.
The BJP leader urged the Jal Shakti Department and Power Development Department to complete repair works on a war footing and ensure that water supply is restored in all affected areas without further delay. He also demanded a proper contingency plan to tackle summer-related shortages so that residents are not forced to rely on expensive private tankers. Raman Suri appealed to the administration to remain sensitive towards public hardships and ensure that basic civic amenities are maintained efficiently during the ongoing heatwave.
Raman Suri further said that the recurring crisis during every summer reflects the urgent need for long-term infrastructure upgrades in Jammu city. He emphasized that merely carrying out temporary repairs is not enough and called for modernization of old pipelines, strengthening of tubewell systems, and better coordination between civic agencies to prevent such hardships in the future. He also urged officials to maintain transparency by informing residents in advance about any disruption in essential services so that people can make necessary arrangements.
