JAMMU: The University of Jammu has decided that the forthcoming meeting of the Academic Council, which was earlier scheduled to be held at Poonch Campus, shall now be conducted in Jammu. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, in view of the recent appeal made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India emphasizing fuel conservation and the adoption of sustainable practices in daily functioning.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor underlined the importance of supporting the national call for reducing unnecessary fuel consumption and adopting responsible administrative measures. He observed that institutions must also contribute towards larger national efforts aimed at conserving resources and promoting efficient working practices.

The Prime Minister, in his recent appeal, urged citizens and institutions to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel, make greater use of public transport systems, encourage carpooling, increase the use of electric vehicles, and shift cargo transportation towards railways wherever feasible. He also stressed the need to revive practices such as virtual meetings and video conferencing, which will significantly help in reducing fuel consumption.

In reference to this appeal, the University also decided that Ph.D. viva-voce examinations shall, as far as possible, be conducted through online mode to minimize travel and support the larger objective of energy conservation and efficient academic functioning.

The University further resolved to encourage greater use of digital platforms in academic processes and administrative functioning in line with the broader national objective of resource conservation, efficient governance, and sustainable institutional practices.
