UDHAMPUR: To commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly, an impressive program was organized by the Ambedkar Welfare Organization Trust Udhampur at Ambedkar Chowk. The event was graced by Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, as the chief guest.

A large gathering, including prominent figures, senior officers of the District Administration, and members of the general public, attended the event. The highlight of the program was the collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution, aimed at raising awareness about the Constitution's significance and the fundamental values it upholds.

While addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the life, works and contributions of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. He thanked the organizers and participants for their efforts in hosting the event and urged everyone to follow the principles of social equality advocated by Baba Saheb. The Dy CM also paid floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Speaking about the significance of the day, the Dy CM remarked, ā€œConstitution Day reminds us of our duties and responsibilities towards the nation. It reinforces our faith in the rule of law and inspires us to work for the welfare of society, especially for the poor and marginalized.ā€ He highlighted that the Constitution, adopted on November 26, 1949, guarantees justice social, economic and political—for all citizens, ensuring a social order that benefits everyone.

During the event, civil society members raised several issues/ demands and submitted a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Chief Minister, which included Allotment of land to marginal farmers, Identification of a suitable site in Udhampur Town for constructing Ambedkar Bhawan, Reservation in promotions for SCs and STs, Filling up the backlog vacancies in reserved categories.

The Deputy Chief Minister patiently listened to these concerns and assured the gathering that genuine demands would be addressed on a priority basis. Students from various educational institutions and members of civil society also shed light on the life, achievements and legacy of Dr. Ambedkar as a social reformer and visionary leader. The program was further enlivened by theme-based cultural performances by school students, which received widespread appreciation from the audience.
