SRINAGAR: Vice President, World Craft Council, Nadia Meer, visited the School of Designs, Kashmir Haat Exhibition Ground, Srinagar. The visit came on the sidelines as part of the World Crafts Council’s 60th jubilee celebration extension programme, being hosted by J&K government.

Nadia Meer had an extensive tour of the institute where she interacted with the officials. She evinced keen interest in the innovative designs and master pieces of Kashmir craft being displayed there.

The Vice President applauded the officials of School of Designs, Kashmir for their exceptional craftsmanship and creativity. The Chief Designer School of Designs highlighted the remarkable progress made in the Design School by integrating traditional and contemporary design techniques.

“The work being done at School of Designs Srinagar is a testament to the talent and dedication of the team”, stated the Vice President during an interactive session while lauding the innovative creations at the Institute.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
